Zenato Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico : From a quality-focused family winery, this is big and powerful, even for an Amarone. Zenato Ripassa Valpolicella Superiore : Ripasso wines are fondly referred to as 'baby Amarone' by some. Zenato's baby is bigger and richer than most with intense flavours of blackberry jam, cocoa, blueberries and raisin. Pair it with risotto with gorgonzola, or grilled sausages and tomatoes. Zenato Sansonina Merlot 2006: The 2006 Merlot is a big, brawny wine bursting with dark fruit, grilled herbs, licorice, and spices that combine elements of ripeness, structure and freshness in a highly attractive style. The 2006 is made in a less super-ripe style than has been the case in the past. The wine needs some time for the tannins to settle down, but it is undoubtedly quite beautiful. Sansonina is made from a densely planted vineyard near Lake Garda. The wine spends 18 months in French oak prior to being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016. Score - 91. Zlatan Plavac 2009: The wine tradition on the island of Hvar dates to 384 BC. The Plavac Mali grape thrives here, and is responsible for many of Croatia's most noted wines. This one has pretty violet aromas off the top with cedar, prune, and strawberry. The palate is quite pleasurable and gives more cedar, strawberry, and wild red fruits before closing with a lingering and dry finish. Enjoy with a peppered beef dish.
