Alpha Domus The Barnstormer Syrah 2010: Blackberry, raspberry, bacon, hickory, pepper and flint aromas are front and centre. The flavours really explode on the palate, and yet it suggests Rhône Valley rather than a New World style (thus the appropriate use of Syrah instead of Shiraz). Fresh acidity and moderately firm tannins give this wine structure. Enjoy it tonight with bacon-wrapped lamb medallions. (VINTAGES panel, Sept. 2012)

Alpha Estate Hedgehog Vineyard Xinomavro 2008: The 2008 Xinomavro 'Hedgehog Vineyard,' a new bottling from Alpha, is a single vineyard Xinomavro, sourced from vines grown at 690 meters above sea level and aged in French oak for 12 months. It replaces in Alpha's lineup what used to be the 'regular' Xinomavro. It is a very fine value point in this very fine lineup. Beautifully constructed, gracious and tinged with a bit of oak in its youth, it has the acidity and fruit to cut through the oak and the tannins to provide intensity and support the wine as it ages. Its one downside is that it doesn't have a lot of mid-palate concentration. It has a lot of persistence, though, and unlike a lot of Xinomavros, it is beautifully balanced, the tannins quite obvious but not quite as hard as in some cases. This is a fine performance for the money that provides lots of power and fruit, yet at the same time, a very elegant and approachable feel. Drink 2012-2021. Score - 90. Alta Vista Premium Cabernet Sauvignon 2009: This wine knocked the socks off of our tasting panel. Deep ruby-purple in colour, it sports aromas of dark cassis, vanilla, new leather and cedar. It's dry, full bodied with ripe cassis, mocha, leather, mint and vanilla flavours. Its plush texture is balanced by focused acidity and supple tannins. It blows most Cabs at this price tag out of the water. Spicy grilled sausages or juicy steaks would pair perfectly. (VINTAGES panel, May 2011)

Alta Vista Premium Estate Malbec 2010: The 2010 Alta Vista Premium Malbec is a blend of the vineyard in Clos dos Los Siete and Serenade in Alto Agrelo. It is raised 50% in French oak of third and fourth use. It has a simple but fresh nose that veers towards an earthier style, but it bestows great freshness and a sense of personality. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that do not distract from the crisp blackberry and bilberry fruit. The finish is focused with a tang of sea salt. This is a superb entry-level Malbec. Drink now-2017. Score - 89. (Neal Martin, erobertparker.com, Oct. 2012)

Alta?r Sideral 2007: The 2007 Sideral is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. Purple-colored, the nose is reticent but displays notes of cedar, pepper, sage, cinnamon, blackcurrants, and blueberry. On the palate, it has a Bordeaux-like elegance, vibrant, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish. Drink it over the next 6-8 years. Score - 90. (Jay Miller, erobertparker.com, Dec. 2010)

Altamira De Los Andes Reserve Malbec 2009: Altamira de Los Andes' 2009 Malbec Reserve spent 18 months in 50% new French oak. Fragrant aromas of toasty oak, earthy minerals, Asian spices, leather, and black cherry lead to a velvety-textured, succulent, nicely proportioned wine that opens in the glass to reveal excellent volume and length. It will evolve for 2-3 years but can be approached now. Score - 92. (Jay Miller, erobertparker.com, Dec. 2011)

Altesino Brunello Di Montalcino 2007: The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is beautiful in this vintage. Layers of dark red cherries, flowers, licorice and tobacco caress the palate in this generous, expressive Brunello. The 2007 presents an intriguing combination of classic Sangiovese aromas and flavors with the generosity and radiance of the vintage. The 2007 Brunello was made from vineyards in several sub-zones in Montalcino and was aged in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. Score - 92. (Antonio Galloni, erobertparker.com, April 2012)
