Andrea Oberto Vigneto Rocche Barolo 2007: The 2007 Barolo Rocche is a striking wine. Layers of perfumed, silky red fruit wafts from the glass in this round, totally inviting Barolo. Spice and rose petal notes develop over time. This is simply dazzling. The integration of French oak, once a bit of an Achilles heel, is masterful. I love the balance and intensity here. Linear and tight, with a light char accent on the moderately long finish. A more elegant style from Serralunga. Best from 2015 through 2030. Score - 93. Ascheri Pisapola Barolo 2007: Classically proportioned, with cherry, licorice, eucalyptus and tobacco flavors married to a chewy texture. Azelia Voghera Brea Riserva Barolo 2004: The 2004 Barolo Riserva Voghera Brea comes across as quite classic. Red fruits, iron, dried rose, smoke, licorice and tobacco are just some of the nuances that can be found in this wonderful, complex Barolo. Stylistically, the Riserva shows slightly oxidative (but not at all unpleasant) aromas and flavors that recall a more traditional style of Barolo than is typically found at Azelia. Still, I loved the Riserva for its superb balance, expansive fruit and compelling, powerful personality. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. Score - 95. (Antonio Galloni, erobertparker.com, Feb. 2010)
