13th Street Red Palette 2011: This ruby red bistro-style blend shows savoury aromas of black pepper, raspberry, smoky bacon, underbrush and black cherry. It's quite dry, medium bodied with peppery spice and red fruit flavours balanced by medium tannins and tangy acidity. Alvento Emilie 2007: TASTING NOTE: Built in the style of St. Emilion but with a higher Cab Franc percentage at 70% with 30% Merlot. It is a stunning wine, starting with notes of cedar, spice, raspberries and oak on the nose to go with gorgeous earthy undertones. Sweet wild raspberries and cherries cover the palate in seductive waves of flavour, adding roasted coffee bean, vanilla, toasty oak tones all on a silky smooth frame. Andrew Will Ciel Du Cheval Vineyard Proprietary Red 2007: The 2007 Ciel du Cheval is a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 40% new French oak for 20 months. Medium purple in color, it offers up an enticing nose of pain grille, pencil lead, herbs, olives, violets, cassis, and black currant. Ripe, smooth-textured, and mouth-filling, it has enough structure to evolve for several years. This lengthy effort will offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2027. Score - 94. Blackwood Lane Vicu?a Roja 2008: The relatively new Blackwood Lane winery's facilities are located in the Fraser Valley, just outside of Vancouver. However, most of their vineyards, especially for their Vicuña Roja Bordeaux blend, are located in the warmer southern Okanagan. The wine is a blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot and 10% Malbec aged for 21 months in a combination of US and French barriques. Look for aromas of cherry, currant, vanilla, tobacco and a hint of bell pepper. Enjoyable now with grilled lamb, but will reward 2-3 years in a cellar.
