Alkoomi Black Label Shiraz/Viognier 2009: The 2009 Shiraz Viognier has a medium-deep garnet-purple color and offers notes of kirsch, mulberries and black cherries with a fragrant peach blossom and allspice undercurrent. The medium-full bodied palate is generously fruited and well structured with very high acid and a medium level of velvety tannins, finishing long. Alkoomi Jarrah Shiraz 2007: TASTING NOTE: The 2007 Jarrah Shiraz gives a deep garnet-purple color with earthy aromas of damp loam, truffles and forest floor that give way to black currant, cigar boxes and cinnamon stick. The palate has a modest, easy-drinking medium body while the medium to high acidity and a medium to firm level of very fine tannins provide just enough support. Drink this now to 2018+. Alpha Domus The Barnstormer Syrah 2010: Blackberry, raspberry, bacon, hickory, pepper and flint aromas are front and centre. The flavours really explode on the palate, and yet it suggests Rhône Valley rather than a New World style (thus the appropriate use of Syrah instead of Shiraz). Fresh acidity and moderately firm tannins give this wine structure. Enjoy it tonight with bacon-wrapped lamb medallions. (VINTAGES panel, Sept. 2012)

Ballast Stone Shiraz 2009: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 Ballast Stone Shiraz is intensely scented of blackberry preserves, blackcurrant cordial and dried mint with hints of chocolate, eucalypt, cedar and licorice. Very full bodied and densely packed with minted black berry flavors, the rich fruit is well supported by medium to firm rounded tannins and enlivening acid, finishing long with some oak poking through.
