March is a big month for Irish Whiskey! Today, March 3rd, is International Irish Whiskey Day, March 17th is St. Patrick's Day and rounding out this hefty threesome is March 27th with International Whiskey Day! If you're already a fan, March is the month for you! If you've never really been a whiskey drinker, maybe the universe is trying to tell you something - time to start sampling again!

Let's get this month-long celebration started with Irish Whiskey Day! Today is the day we celebrate Ireland's greatest alcoholic spirit. Irish whiskey has a long and rich history, dating back to the 1500s. Over the years, it has become one of the most popular types of whiskey in the world! There are many different brands and varieties of Irish whiskey available today, each with its own unique flavour profile. Irish whiskey is typically smooth and mellow, with a sweet and spicy flavour. It can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails.

Like many of these celebrations, the history behind Irish Whiskey Day is unknown. Some believe that it was created as a way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, while others claim that it is a celebration of the Irish Whiskey industry itself. Regardless of its origins, International Irish Whiskey Day is a great opportunity to enjoy some delicious whiskey and learn more about this iconic spirit. So raise a glass and toast to Ireland.

How to Participate in International Irish Whiskey Day

  • Host a whiskey tasting party (we can help with this!)
  • Prepare an Irish whiskey cocktail (see below for a few of our favourite recipes)
  • Try a new Irish whiskey - we've added a few of our favourites

How to Host an Irish Whiskey Tasting Party

  1. Provide 4-5 varieties of Irish Whiskey.
  2. Pour each variety in a tulip shaped glass. Each guest should have one sample of each whiskey variety in front of them.
  3. Provide each of your guests with a notepad and pen to record their findings/thoughts about each tasting.
  4. Provide room temperature water to dilute drinks or to drink between tastings. Consider a few snacks to use as palate cleansers. We like plain bread or crackers.
  5. Discuss your preferences and thoughts with your guests. Enjoy!

Food to Pair with Irish Whiskey

  • Lamb with Mint Jelly
  • Blue Cheese
  • Filet
  • Smoked Salmon
  • Hawaiian Pizza
  • Dark Chocolate Fondue

Whatever you do, be sure to enjoy some Irish Whiskey today and pay tribute to this great spirit!
