Absinthe is a high-proof distilled spirit known for its vivid green colour and bold anise-forward flavour. Often mistaken for a liqueur, absinthe is actually a true spirit—made by distilling alcohol infused with wormwood, fennel, anise, and other aromatic herbs.

Absinthe gained a notorious reputation due to myths surrounding its supposed hallucinogenic effects. Despite popular belief, modern studies have shown absinthe is not hallucinogenic.

However, concerns over social disorder and misuse led many countries - including Switzerland, United States, and France - to ban the spirit as early as 1908.
