Description

The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella is dark and brooding, slowly opening with a display of violet-tinged blackberry, plum, stone dust, dark chocolate and sage. It's velvety and luxuriously textural, with depths of ripe red and blue fruits giving way to licorice, sweet herbal tones and a hint of rich black coffee. There's something of a sticky sweetness through the finale, only partially offset by notes of tart cherry and hints of spiced citrus. I would advise decanting or leaving it open in bottle for an hour or more for optimal enjoyment, but be aware that it is a large-scale expression of Amarone. Drinking window: 2021-2028. Score - 91.
