A special cuvée from this top-notch négociant, the 2019 Côtes du Rhône Villages Louis checks in as 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, with the Grenache brought up in tank and the Syrah brought up in oak. Beautiful notes of cassis and blackberry fruits as well as plenty of peppery spice and a touch of meatiness all emerge from the glass, and this terrific 2019 has a wonderful sense of elegance, medium-bodied richness, a great mid-palate, and plenty of length on the finish. There's a kiss of background oak, but the balance here is spot on. Just a beautiful, elegant Côtes du Rhône-Villages, it should easily evolve for 5-7 years. Maturity: 2020-2027. Score - 91.
