Let's hope this is a breakout vintage for Comte de Lauze and not a freak one-off, because the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape looked impressive in this year's blind tasting. Peppery and floral up front, it reveals layers of supple raspberry, apricot and chocolate on the full-bodied palate, backed by rich tannins and a chewy finish. It should come into its prime drinking window within a couple of years and stay there for a decade and a half. Drink Date: 2020-2035. Score - 93. (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Aug. 31, 2018)
