Barista Pinotage 2011: Always a customer favourite, this Pinotage uses specially toasted oak barrels to add rich coffee notions to the succulent red berry fruit underneath. You could try it with biscotti, but it's probably better suited to blackened lamb burgers or smoked cheeses. |

Bon Courage Estate Pinotage 2009: This is a delicious and modern-styled Pinotage featuring aromas of blackberry, strawberry, plum and smoked meat. It's dry, medium bodied with generous ripe red berry fruit held together by somewhat forward yet classy tannins. Try this alongside a smoked applewood cheddar, or with braised lamb dishes. Clos Malverne Le Caf? Pinotage 2011: A lovely and intriguing nose: lots of smoke, plum, coffee and smoked meat aromas here. Quite robust on the palate, but balanced and approachable. Flavourful and food-friendly, there is a great deal more going on than just coffee in this one. A light curtain of tannins makes its appearance on the finish. This one is an easy choice for smoked spareribs and other barbecue fare. (VINTAGES panel, April 2013) |

Flagstone Writer's Block Pinotage 2009: Umm ... ah ... well ... maybe I could say ... no that doesn't work ... umm ... oh I know: the 2009 Writer's Block was one of only 36 wines out of 1400 to win Double Gold at the 2011 Michelangelo International Wine Awards, a South African competition adjudicated by tasters from around the world. This offers dense black fruit, cassis and oak aromas. The palate is dry, chewy and fresh with lively acidity and follows nicely on the nose with some lovely black fruit notes. Very tasty. Enjoy with smoked duck or pulled pork. (VINTAGES panel, Feb. 2011) |

Simonsvlei Ja-Mocha Pinotage 2010: Moves here [New Generation range] from Hercules range. From pinotage, not as expressively 'coffee' as expected; well-rounded, wild-berry 10 has appeal without gimmicky flavouring. Score - 3 1/2 Stars (out of 5). (Greg de Bruyn, Platter's South African Wine Guide, 2012) |

Stanford Hills Estate Jacksons Pinotage 2009: Fulfills promise of preview last year. Grown in stature & seriousness, but still bright, clean, sweet fruit leading to dry finish. Lightly rich, with good supportive oaking. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5). (Tim James, Platter's South African Wine Guide, 2012) |

The Grinder Pinotage 2011: Capitalizing on the notable 'coffee' aromas and flavours associated with Pinotage, The Grinder hits it out of the ballpark with this fun, quirky label. It launches with cracked black peppercorns and roasted coffee then rolls into black plum, wild strawberries and plenty of spicy bittersweet chocolate underscored by savoury/leathery notes. The palate offers juicy fruit, smoked spice and you guessed it - espresso and peppery flavours. Approachable and quite substantial with balanced acidity and a savoury, smoky finish. Pair with grilled meats, smoked pork or hearty mole based chili. Score - 88. (Daenna Van Mulligen, winescores.ca, Aug. 29, 2012) |
