Description

One of the simple oenological pleasures of northern Italy, lagrein is a fleshy, juicy, firm red grape with moderate tannins and structure generally based more on acids. This example from the highly reliable cooperative in Bozen (Bolzano) is clean, ripe and fruity, indeed very ripe for Lagrein, displaying ample black fruit, wild plums and blackberry in an inviting style, with a solid measure of sapidity and also very good length. I love the immediate pleasure, the crunchy, vibrant palate. Fans of zesty reds will find comfort here. Be sure to chill lightly before enjoying. Score - 90.
