Ruffino Romitorio di Santedame Gran Selezione Chianti Classico

60' Colorino, 40' Merlot. The Santedame estate is situated in the heart of Tuscany and became part of the Tenimenti Ruffino in 1988. Apart from the main house, there is the Romitorio (from the Latin romitorium, meaning hermitage, solitary refuge) that still dominates the landscape. This building dates back to the 12th century and was created as a place of refreshment for pilgrims from the Maremma en route to Camaldoli. On purchasing the Santedame estate, Ruffino discovered a vineyard planted with Colorino, an almost forgotten local vine. They began to study the vine in depth during the latter part of the eighties and discovered that it contains powerful anti-oxidants. These substances are highly coloured - hence the vine's name, Colorino.
