Quinta da Falorca Reserva Encruzado 2019

Description

The 2019 Encruzado Reserva Quinta da Falorca (it also has 5% Malvasia, only because some Malvasia vines are sprinkled in the field blend) was partly (only 11%) aged for two months in new French oak, the rest in stainless steel. It comes in at 13% alcohol. Another stunning Encruzado from this boutique - one that until recently I mostly relied on for the reds - this shows good depth, even better structure and a big, lingering finish. It manages to coat the palate. The mouthfeel makes it seem more concentrated than it probably is while the structure provides a big lift to the fruit. This should age beautifully. It should also develop and improve along the way. It's not drinking too badly now, but I expect it to show more nuance and complexity in time. You'll certainly benefit by holding it until this time next year. Those with cold cellars will be rewarded for holding it much longer. As good as they have been lately, I'm wondering if this might be the best of the last three vintages. Time will tell, and they have certainly been consistent of late, even while vintage conditions have varied dramatically. Drink date: 2021-2033. Score - 93.
