National Prosecco Day is  celebrated on August 13th each year. It is a day dedicated to honoring and enjoying the Italian sparkling wine, Prosecco.

National Prosecco Day provides an opportunity for wine enthusiasts to celebrate Prosecco's refreshing and lively character, as well as its popularity as a versatile and approachable sparkling wine option.

Prosecco is a popular sparkling wine that originates from the Veneto region in northeastern Italy. It is made primarily from the Glera grape, although other local grape varieties may also be used in small amounts. Prosecco is known for its light, fruity, and refreshing character, making it a delightful choice for celebratory occasions and casual gatherings.

Production Method: Prosecco is typically produced using the Charmat method, also known as the tank method. In this process, the second fermentation, which creates the bubbles, takes place in large stainless steel tanks instead of individual bottles. This method allows for a more economical production process and preserves the wine's fresh and fruity flavors.

Flavor Profile: Prosecco is known for its lively and effervescent nature, with abundant bubbles and a gentle mousse. It offers aromas of white flowers, green apple, pear, citrus, and sometimes a hint of honey. Prosecco is usually off-dry to slightly sweet, although some drier versions, labeled "brut," are also available.

Styles: Prosecco comes in different styles, depending on its level of sweetness.
The main categories are:
    • Prosecco Brut: Dry and crisp, with minimal residual sugar.
    • Prosecco Extra Dry: Slightly sweeter than Brut, but still balanced and refreshing.
    • Prosecco Dry (or Demi-Sec): Moderately sweet, appealing to those who prefer a touch of sweetness in their
       sparkling wine.
    • Prosecco Superiore: Within the Prosecco region, there is a designation called "Conegliano Valdobbiadene
    • Prosecco Superiore DOCG," which represents the highest quality level of Prosecco. The grapes for Prosecco
Superiore come from a specific hilly area and are subject to stricter production regulations.

Versatility: Prosecco is a versatile sparkling wine that can be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif or paired with a wide range of dishes. It pairs well with light appetizers, seafood, salads, mild cheeses, and fruity desserts.

Serving: Prosecco is best served chilled, typically between 40°F to 45°F (4°C to 7°C), to enhance its refreshing qualities.

Popularity: Prosecco has gained significant popularity worldwide due to its approachable and accessible nature, making it an appealing alternative to other sparkling wines like Champagne.

Whether celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying a leisurely afternoon, Prosecco's bubbly charm and delightful flavors make it a favorite choice among wine enthusiasts looking for an easy-to-love sparkling wine.
